June 24, 2008 PHOTO CALL: Durang's Marriage of Bette and Boo, with Clark and Glover By Matthew Blank, Playbill online, published June 18, 2008. Roundabout Theatre Company's new Off-Broadway production of Christopher Durang's comedy The Marriage of Bette and Boo began performances June 12 at the Laura Pels Theatre. The Durang favorite is described as "a dark comedy that takes a look at the complex marriage of Bette and Boo. Three decades of marriage, divorce, alcoholism, nervous breakdowns and death Ñ all blended in a unique mix of irony, humor and farce Ñ are played out in 33 quick scenes." Christopher Evan Welch (Festen, The Crucible with Laura Linney) and Kate Jennings Grant (Radiant Baby, Proof) are the central couple with Tony Award winners John Glover (Love! Valour! Compassion!) and Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza) starring, respectively, as their in-laws, Karl Hudlocke and Margaret Brennan. The cast also features Terry Beaver (Father Donnally), Heather Burns (Emily Brennan), Julie Hagerty (Soot Hudlocke), Adam Lefevre (Paul Brennan), Zoe Lister-Jones (Joan Brennan) and Charles Socarides (Matt). The production is helmed by Walter Bobbie, whose last directorial credit with Roundabout was the 2003 Broadway production of Twentieth Century. April 10, 2008 The new Roundabout Theatre Company production of Christopher Durang's darkly comic The Marriage of Bette and Boo, beginning June 13 at the Laura Pels Theatre, will feature Tony Award winners John Glover and Victoria Clark among the "dearly beloved." Director Walter Bobbie's cast features Clark (as mother of the bride Margaret Brennan), Glover (as father of the groom Karl Hudlocke), Tony nominee Terry Beaver (Father Donnally), Heather Burns (Emily Brennan), "Airplane!" star Julie Hagerty (as mother of the groom Soot Hudlocke), Kate Jennings Grant (Bette Brennan), Adam Lefevre (Paul Brennan), Charles Socarides (Matt) and Christopher Evan Welch (Boo Hudlocke). In the absurdist-kissed comedy, Matt tells the tale of his parents' relationship -- and their circle of dysfunctional relations. The Marriage of Bette and Boo will open Off-Broadway July 10 in the Pels, within the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center (111 West 46 Street). The limited engagement will play to Sept. 7. The design team includes David Korins (sets), Susan Hilferty (costumes), Donald Holder (lights) and Nevin Steinberg (sound). According to Roundabout, "The Marriage of Bette and Boo is a dark comedy that takes a look at the complex marriage of Bette and Boo. Bobbie returns to Roundabout after directing the 2003 Broadway production of Twentieth Century, starring Alec Baldwin and Anne Heche (Terry Beaver also starred). John Glover, who won a Tony Award for Love! Valour! Compassion!, returns to Roundabout and the Laura Pels Theatre after the 2004 production of The Paris Letter.
